Communication, generally, features not just a system in which the interaction takes place, but also a process, ways of communication, which enable creation, transmission and reception of various information.

The article studies English borrowings in modern Russian. One of the main factors of borrowing is globalization which resulted in closer cooperation between countries at the turn of the centuries. One of the central problems of sociolinguistics is exponentially intensive interrelation of languages in the modern world. The predictions of perspectives and evaluation of its results for the Russian language have been changing during the last several decades.

The article presents the analysis of Russian self-mentions – elements of authorization comprising “the voice of the author” – in evaluative academic discourse. These are phrases containing fi rst person personal pronouns and possessive pronouns (я; мы; меня; мне; нам; нас; мой; наш).

The article deals with the description of the specifi c features of attributive constructions (epithet complexes) in M. Tsvetaeva’s texts. The Collected Works of the poet, as well as the Dictionary of Poetic Language served as the material for this research. The article examines food tradition that exists on the territory of Vytegorsky (Megra) and Totemsky districts in Vologda Oblast (Varnitsy village, Ivoilovo village, Pyatovskaya village, Glubokoe village, Myasokombinat village, Savino village, Sovinskaya village, Tsareva village, Chernyakovo village, Pritykino village, Totma). Research data is dialect recordings of Saratov dialectological text corpus. Food tradition, represented in speech by food names and kitchen tools, is analyzed in a discursive aspect in the article: we focus on the refl ectivity of dialect speech.

The author proposes the idea that it is necessary to draw on historical and dialectal data in the analysis of the modern word-formation phenomena.

The article studies the Cologne dialect in the process of its historical development. The current state of the dialect is notable for a wide and in different ways varied range of regional, social, functional and stylistic layers (levels) in close coordination with one another. Notably, this system is not stable, it constantly changes under the influence of the social, technical, cultural, historical and other factors. The research on language change often disregards the dialect material featuring prominently in the historical context of linguistics.

The article examines the intralingual borrowings from traditional argot as a key source of the formation of French commun youth argot. The relevance of the article stems from the comprehensive nature of the argotisation of youth speech in France over the last two decades. The research material is the linguistic corpus of youth oral speech Multicultural Paris French (Français Parisien Multiculturel) collected under the supervision of the French linguist F. Gadet.

The present work is related to such studies, the subject of which is the interaction of various institutional types of discourses. This article will focus on the biblical discourse, which, compared with the legal discourse, is considered by the author as a special type of interaction of believers based on legal norms. A special study of this issue is of undoubted scientific interest, because addressing this problem is important not only for the study of biblical discourse, which, unfortunately, is currently understudied.

The article considers how the conceptual metaphor functions in biological popular science English discourse. The purpose of this paper is to reveal the correlation between the target domain represented by all branches of Biology (biological popular science discourse) and the INDUSTRY and INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY source domains by examining a plethora of metaphoric expressions constituting them. By using continuous sampling method, as well as methods of conceptual and component analysis, the author considers metaphorical expressions which constitute the source domains.
