On the International Demand for the French Language

The paper focuses on the formation, development and current state of the French language as a means of international communication. Special attention is paid to the destiny of the French language in the world from two perspectives: from the perspective of multiculturalism and the perspective of cross-language competition.

Varieties and Methods of Nomination in the Names of Abakan Trading Places

The aim of the study is to analyze the methods of nomination in the names of trading places (emporonyms) of Abakan. The analysis is conducted both on the verbal and nonverbal levels of nomination. The author distinguishes morphemic and non-morphemic methods of nomination (compounding, clipping, conversion etc), as well as graphic contamination and graphic parceling.

Nominations of Animals Characterized by Childishness, Immaturity, in the Don Cossack Dialects

The article considers nominations of cubs of wild and domesticated animals and birds in Don Cossack dialects, generating word-stems and the peculiarities of such nominations’ word-formation are determined.

Lexostory as a Form of Providing Illustrative Material in a Dialect Dictionary

The article considers relevant issues of modern lexicography concerning the choice of the structural organization of acquittals. The advantages of such form of illustration delivery as a lexostory are shown on specific lexicographic material, and the principles of singling it out in a macro-tale of a dialect speaker are defined.

Allusive Background of the Text Paradigms of Meaning in the Novel «Budda’s Return» by G. I. Gazdanov

The article describes textual functions of the key allusions to the Buddist philosophy on the example of the novel «Budda’s Return» by G. I. Gazdanov. These allusions are enhanced by foregrounding interword textual paradigms of meaning (like synonyms, antonyms, species and genus combinations, periphrases, associative and thematic convergence).

Evaluative and Symbolic View of the Opposition ‘Deep – Superficial’

The article presents the results of the semantic research of the axiological binary opposition of the Russian language ‘deep – superficial’; some peculiarities of its components’ symbolization are described. Based on the language material the idea is propounded that the opposition components under research reflect the phenomena of the physical, sensuous sphere, and are also employed in denoting the epistemological sphere in the Russian language.

The article studies linguistic factors facilitating the formation of canadianisms; the latter emerge due to the bilingualism on the territory of Canada, and they are the result of the language interference. The paper presents the definition of the term «canadianism» and analyses the peculiarities of universal word-formation processes involved in creating these specific lexical units.
