The paper offers a new typology of English basic syntactic units that take part in realizing communicative acts and traces its applicability to a study of Russian basic syntactic units.

The paper studies the way the category of fabulousness is modified in folk tales belonging to the nucleus of English folk tale discourse. Chronotopical parameter proves to be the most sensitive to the influence of extralinguistic factors. Being determined by socio-cultural conditions of its existence, the genre specificity of English folk tale is manifested in weakening of discursive features of chronotopical uncertainty, fantasticality (fiction) and, therefore, entertainment.

The article deals with the analysis of the meaning of the perception verbs. Their consistency is determined by the contraposition of the semantics of state and action ( see/look, hear/listen) in their content. The opposition of these meanings reflects the duality of the language perceptions of human psychology: the contraposition of an ‘inner’ person to an ‘outward’ one. Inner unobservable perceptive processes (states) are opposed to observable pictorial processes (actions).
