The Specifics of Chronotope of the Novel by S. Lukyanenko Rough Draft

The article considers the chronotope of the novel Rough Draft by S. Lukyanenko, its special features being due to the combination of two genres – urban fantasy and conspiracy novel. Even though both genres contain some common motives and figures, in the work by Lukyanenko urban fantasy genre prevails, because the main character himself mainly forms the chronotope: slows down the time, creates new locations by the power of his mind (rooms, buildings etc.).

Dante’s Motives in A. P. Chekhov’s Story Student

The article focuses on studying the motives of the first canto of Inferno in A. P. Chekhov’s story Student. Possible allusions to the first canto are evident in Chekhov’s choice of the time and place of where the character experiences his spiritual drama, in the semantics and function of the locuses, and key motives highlighting the character’s path. The author assumes that Dante’s ideals might have given rise to Chekhov’s idea of the unity of life in the world.

Strangeness of Time and Space: Based on the Material of the Story «Nevsky Prospekt» by N. V. Gogol

The article investigates strange transformations which occur to the categories of time and space in the story “Nevsky Prospekt”. An attempt is undertaken to explain the concentration of these metamorphoses on the stylistic level of the story and to confirm the psychic nature of the strange as a certain world lookout ingrained in the subject’s consciousness.

Time in the novel is presented as a row of interlacing mutually defining layers: the author’s time, the time of lyrical affection, the time of the characters, the reader’s time, breakthroughs to the Eternity create a complex unity of the narrative structure.
